Rue du Maréchal Juin
It is one of the city’s oldest abbeys, built by Merovingian Queen Brunhilda at the end of the 6th century.
The large church was built in 1175 and the front of its abbey dwelling dating back to 1771 can still be admired today.
Hit severely through the ages (it was gutted by fire three times, in the 9th century, during the Hundred Years’ War and in 2008), Henri 4th used it during the Siege of Laon, and was turned into an arsenal in 1880.
The site boasts a pond which was the delight of French naturalist Buffon, because the level of the pond never dropped.
Soon it will be the site of a hotel and residential complex.
