Etang des moines
This Cistercian abbey, which was originally called 'Clara Vallis', was founded by Saint-Bernard in 1134 in the heart of the Vauclair forest.
Spared during the Revolution , this building was seriously damaged during the battles of the first world war.
Today only the abbey ruins remain and a garden of medicinal plants has been created where there used to be an apothecary.
A free audioguide visit "The mystery of the Vauclair abbey" can be downloaded from www.evasion-aisne.com. Taking 45 minutes, including the time to get there, this visit will transport you back through time...to when the Cistercian order was founded.
