This route goes through a wonderful variety of landscapes. The grassy plain makes way for hills covered with broad-leaved trees, their lines broken by deep valleys through which a river flows. The track from Laon to the peaceful man-made lake of Ailette is part hiking and part fitness trail – it just about has it all ! From the “Crownèd hill”, as Laon was known to pilgrims, to the dramatic Chemin des Dames, this route takes you on a journey through 5 centuries of history.
