The town of Chaourse is home to one of the region’s oldest fortified churches. Built on the north side of Chaourse, its imposing structure towers above the valley of the Serre, the river separating Upper Chaourse (right bank) from Lower Chaourse. The church is part of the tour of the valley of the Serre and its bell-tower, a 25 m high massive, quadrangular tower and genuine feudal donjon, captivates and surprises in its boldness and originality, as well as the two enormous towers surrounding the West gate. The inside of the church is definitely worth visiting. It boasts a magnificent baroque high altar, a tall, prismatic tabernacle, chancel and an apse covered in fine woodwork.
