Direction la Hottée
Located at the south of Molinchart village, this chaotic rocky conglomerate clearly dates back to the tertiary era, that is to say more than 70 million years. It is similar to the sandstone rocks located in the Fontainebleau forest (white sand). The sandstone is made up of sand that has been deformed by erosion, with the cupules gathering randomly in mounds known as “gogottes”. Regarding the name of the Hottée de Gargantua, it could be tied to the siege of the city of Laon, league member, in the late 16th century by the armies of Henry 4th. Rabelais’ Gargantua having appeared in 1532, we can imagine that he was already part of the people’s imagination at the time.
