Monument erected in 1928, after a contribution from the departments of the South-West of France. It recalls the battles in which the regiments of the 36th infantry division took part: particularly the 18th ID of Pau, the 34th ID of Mont-de-Marsan and the 14th Artillery regiment of Tarbes.
The statue portrays a Southwestern farmer in traditional dress and wearing a Basque beret. With his back turned towards the former battle field, the statue looks out to the homeland for eternity.
Sculptor, Claude Grange chose to move away from the military heroisation that was so popular at the time.
