This national memorial pays tribute to all the tank crew members who died during the Great War. It is located at the point from where for the first time French tanks engaged massively on 16 April 1917 in the direction of Juvincourt. The monument was erected by the group of assault artillery war veterans and inaugurated on 2 July 1922 in the presence of Marshals Foch and Pétain, Generals Mangin and Weygand and General Estienne, who “invented” the tanks. Not far from the monument, there are armoured vehicles from the 50s and 60s on display and information boards describing this new weapon, assault artillery, and its first engagement.
