As part of the Le Grand Match exhibition at the Caverne du Dragon, historian Camille Morata?s lecture examines the combat experience of sportsmen and women mobilized on the Chemin des Dames, from the fighting to their demise, through the management of their remains and the dissemination of the memory of those who went from medals to machine-gun fire, from the end of the war to the centenary.
“Few of us will return tomorrow, but our sacrifices will not be in vain”. These are the words of Louis-Marie Bossut, one of the greatest pre-war racing riders. An unfortunate prophet, he gave his life the next day on the Chemin des Dames, joining rugby players François Poeydebasque, Emmanuel Iguiniz, Daniel Ihingoué, James Huggan, Charles Edward Wilson, cyclist Louis Lecuona and footballer Maurice Yaklo?
