For several years now, Rapha%EBlle Peria has been developing a body of work centered on the memory of landscapes and the fragility of life. A true “sculptor of images,” the artist uses a visual technique: scraping away layers from photographs. Armed with her engraving tools, she adds nothing to her photos; instead, she removes material from them, layer by layer, to reveal the raw white of the paper.
From this meticulous gesture emerge immaculate, luminous, and ghostly silhouettes that rescue the subjects from their inevitable disappearance.

Whether she scrapes away the image of a forest rendered in India ink, explores underwater memories, or incorporates subtle touches of paint to suggesthighlight the fragility of our ecosystems, Raphaëlle Peria transforms the reality of destruction into a visual poetry of rare delicacy.

Henri Matisse’s famous quote, “There are flowers everywhere for those who care to see them,” reminds us that the world’s beauty endures despite its upheavals. Choosing this phrase as the title of her exhibition at the Maison des Arts et Loisirs is an invitation to those who know how to look. The radiance of life is everywhere. It is a sensitive, urgent, and luminous journey.
