Work structures our societies just as much as it shapes our bodies, rhythms, and relationships.
It is based on a multitude of gestures—learned, repeated, and transformed—a large part of which remains invisible.
Since 2022, artists Marie and Gotié have been developing a long-term creative project dedicated to the gestures at the heart of human activity.
They focus on observing, collecting, and recreating these everyday gestures in various professional settings (industry, agriculture, construction, and the healthcare sector).
Through fieldwork, they gather workers’ stories,
soundscapes, and sensory observations, which give rise to
graphic and visual interpretations.
These field immersions have led them to question what work
reveals—and what it renders invisible. What hierarchies of value structure these gestures? What do they reveal about the ways we produce and live together?
“Immersion” gives rise to the creation of an installation composed of visual and sound elements. Drawing on processesinspired by pre-cinema and the principle of retinal persistence, this installation aims to extract gestures and spaces from their productive function in order to reveal their sensory and political dimensions.
