The title “Le dos noir” (“The Black Back”) refers both to the subjects addressed in the artist?s etchings – in this case Jan Vi?ar – and to the technical processes behind them. Each print comes from a matrix, the original support that could be considered the ?back? of the printed image – a hidden face, an invisible but essential foundation?
