The Familistère de Guise is a unique architectural and social experiment in France: from 1859 to 1883, Jean-Baptiste Godin built a complex of collective housing and services for his foundry workers, a far cry from traditional single-family dwellings.
The Archives Départementales look back at this history, with a selection of period photographs showing the workings of the Familistère and the daily lives of its inhabitants.
