Exposition à Laon : “Noir de lettre”

With “Noir de lettre,” the artist 2flui continues his committed exploration of the letter, the gesture, and the transformation of written forms.
Coming from a graffiti background—where it all began with tagging and inscribing his name in urban spaces—he very early on developed an instinctive relationship with the letter and the mark.
His discovery of calligraphy extended this relationship, opening up a field of exploration where precision and freedom of movement coexist.

His work draws on Latin calligraphy, which he transforms through movement and the freedom of the stroke. The artist subverts the letter from its original form: he invents it, fragments it, stretches it, or reinvents it to the point of abstraction. The letter thus ceases to be merely a legible sign and becomes rhythm, tension, breath, and matter.

For this exhibition, he draws from the intersection of several calligraphic traditions (Latin, Arabic, and Asian). Without reproducing their codes, he captures their rhythms, balances, tensions, and the energy of the gesture. In this way, he cultivates a personal visual language in which forms engage in dialogue across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
“Noir de lettre” thus presents a form of writing liberated from immediate legibility, where the sign becomes a plastic space and a symbol of the art of writing. Blending the legacy of graffiti, calligraphic precision, and formal innovation, the letter becomes painting and the mark, presence.
