Lithuanian-born sculptor Antanas Mon?ys spent much of his life in France, from 1950 to 1993. Although most of Mon?ys’ artistic legacy has been repatriated and preserved in Lithuania, the town of Laon houses in the church of Saint Marcel the sculptures carved in stone by Antanas Mon?ys in 1951-1952: the “Stations of the Way of the Cross” and the “Saint Joseph” and “Madone des Chemins” sculptures.
On the occasion of the Lithuanian Season in France, the City of Laon invites you to an evening dedicated to the discovery of this sculptor, with a conference presenting the work of Antanas Mon?ys “Between Lithuanian and French artistic identity”, given by Lithuanian and French art critics.
This will be followed by a contemporary multicultural oratorio inspired by the personality and work of Antanas Mon?ys, created by Lithuanian composer Linas Rim?a and director Alvydas ?lepikas?
