Since the 12th century, Liesse has been an important place of pilgrimage for the kings and people of France. The history of the basilica is strongly marked by the legend of the Black Virgin, exposed to the veneration of the faithful.
In the chapel, a diorama presents the highlights of this legend brought back from the Crusades. At present, it remains a high place of pilgrimage, which could welcome in the past the royal procession of Louis VII or the Marshal Juin… There are still many souvenirs and ex-voto offered by famous or anonymous pilgrims.
