An emblematic site on the Chemin des Dames, the Caverne du Dragon is a former underground stone quarry at the heart of the fighting in the First World War. A place of cantonment, worship, infirmary and even cemetery, this “creute” bears witness to the daily lives of soldiers on both sides, and to the harsh fighting that marked this territory from 1914 to 1918. The temperature in the Caverne is a constant 12°C, and guided tours are limited to 49 people.
And new for 2026: every first Sunday of the month, tours of the cavern are free!
So come along Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm…
