In 2007, the monumental ensemble of nine charred wooden figures, each 6 meters high, entitled Constellation of Pain, was inaugurated and is located near the Dragon’s Cave. It is therefore freely accessible every day.
It was created by the sculptor Christian Lapie from Reims, and commemorates the sacrifice of thousands of African soldiers enlisted under the French flag and fallen on these slopes of the Chemin des Dames during the Nivelle offensive in 1917…
