The church was destroyed during the First World War, but left as it was to bear witness to the ravages of the conflict, and its ruins can still be seen today. But it was also here, in June 1917, that three soldiers of the 18th Infantry Regiment – Casimir Canel, Alphonse Didier and Jean-Louis Lasplacettes – were shot for refusing to return to the front.
